Christmas Day

A child sits beside a Christmas tree

and asks "How many gifts will there be for me?"

They look so big and so very fine,

"I hope somehow they can all be mine."

A child sits beside a sun-scorched tree

and asks "Please give some food to me.

I'm hungry, I'm tired, I'm so alone,

I'm very afraid, and far from my home."

A child sits beside a Christmas tree

and says "Well, there wasn't much for me -

just cars and games and other stuff, it

seems such a lot but it isn't enough!

Why couldn't there have been more things

for me underneath the Christmas tree?"

A child sits beside a sun-scorched tree

and says "Thank you for feeding me.

I've had some water and a morsel of bread

and against this tree I can rest my head.

I've survived the day, what more can I say.

Thank you Lord for Christmas day."
